Our story
How Etiartini began — one name, two workshops and a bond with Bali.
Etiartini is a name before it is a brand. It is the name of Putu — Ni Pande Putu Etiartini — with whom Alex has shared a close bond for many years. When we decided to create something together that connects Bali and Europe, the name was the obvious choice.
Two people, two sides of the world
Alex lives and works in Goes, in the Dutch province of Zeeland. He has been building software for about fifteen years and runs his own company. Etiartini began as a side project: could we make beautiful, honest products and bring them directly to people in Europe?
Putu knows Bali from the inside. She guides every design decision that touches Balinese culture: which motifs belong on a garment, and which do not.
On Bali, a motif is rarely just a pattern. That is why Putu has a say in every design.
What we make
We are starting small and deliberately, with two lines that complement each other through the year:
- Sarongs and pareos from Bali — for summer, the beach and travel.
- Knitted winter accessories from Europe — a rib-knit beanie and a twisted headband, in three shades of grey.
Kimonos and meditation cushion covers will follow, once they are good enough.
How we work
- Fewer, but better. We would rather have a small collection that is right than a large one nobody remembers.
- Honest about material and origin. Every product page states where something was made and what it is made of. No vague promises.
- Respect for the makers and their culture. Designs with Balinese iconography are chosen together with Putu.
